The Romford division of the Essex Beekeepers’ Association will run taster sessions on TWO days in summer 2022.
The dates are Sunday 3rd July and Sunday 14th August (see details below).
Spaces will be limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
The Romford Honey Show is being held on Saturday 16 October.
To enter, you need to return an entry form – see below or the September magazine – no later than Thursday 14 October.
If you’re not sure what categories you might enter, take a look at the 2021 schedule to see which ones may suit you best.
Forms may be handed in at the October meeting on Thursday 07 October or sent by post to the address on the form.
If you won a trophy last year, please don’t forget to return it in good time for the show. And please make sure it comes back clean.
It’s a bit of fun, so why not enter some of your honey, hive products or baked goods this year?
This video of an Asian Hornet attack on honey bee hives is both fascinating and horrifying. It reminds us to remain vigilant for the appearance of this invasive species if we should see it in our area.
The fastest way to make an accurate report of a sighting is through the Asian Hornet Watch app. Why not download the app today?
The video was made by Eric Darrouzet from the University of Tours. It shows the level of hornet activity in France outside honey bee colonies in both a managed colony and a wild/feral colony.
The consequences of an attack by Asian Hornets can be absolutely devastating.
There is still just enough time to enter yourself into Romford Beekeepers’ beekeeping Oscars – the Romford Honey Show.
The show takes place on Saturday 12 October at The Ascension Church, Collier Row Road, Collier Row, RM5 2BA.
All exhibits must be checked in ** BEFORE 2.00 PM ** on the day correctly labeled for the judging.
You can hand in your entry form at THIS WEEK’S meeting or by email or post no later than 10 October.
Details of the 22 categories – yes, there really is something for everyone – are available on the schedule which you can download below.

Romford Beekeepers held a working day on Saturday 16 February as part of the project to resurface the teaching apiary.
The surface had become heavy and uneven underfoot, particularly when carrying bee boxes.
This was the first stage of improvements, to spread and bed down a layer of sharp sand. At least one further work party is needed to spread soil, with a third proposed to lay some turf.
There are six hives at the teaching apiary and the bees behaved impeccably throughout this ‘disturbance’.
Click HERE for a short video of the volunteers firming up the sand. Or dancing – you decide.
